I always thought the mini30 was was old "Assault Weapon Ban" supporting Bill Ruger's bad attempt to mainstream the even poorer attempt he made with the mini14, by making use of the cheap import ammo. I did not care for the prices or minute of barn side accuracy on them back then or now. Never saw a reason to buy either the 30 or 14 over a quality AK or AR then or now. I can accept that maybe things have changed.
I have a small spot in my collection for Ruger. I have some die hard Ruger friends and have shot most of what they make. Loved my Ruger old school Vaquero in .45 Colt. Even the old beefy P-89 was a good but large 9mm pistol. Ruger's MK whatever .22 pistols were good for their time too. After a new stock, trigger job and bedding I have been impressed with M-77s in .260 and 7mm Mag at distance and on game. Yeah, I got my flame suit handy.
With so many period and modern options, I have not bought a Ruger in ten plus years. No need.
At some point I want to build up a custom .22lr semi on an aftermarket 10/22 receiver, but it's not a factory Ruger.
