Welcome to the group!

Guessing the bayo lug "ears" have been ground or filed off. The "1" in front of the "56S-1" ( which normally would have an under folder stock) indicates a rifle that was caught in port as the AT and unconstitutional F tried to figure out the meaning of "Sporting Purpose" as ordered by George Bush the First. It was marked with the extra "1" because it seemed that Bush1 thought that the name as well as other featured made the rifle evil and therefore non-sporting. Changing the name, removing the bayo lug or just the ears, at first tack welding a cover over the threads of the barrel muzzle and replacing the underfolding stock or fixed stock and pistol grip with that famous Bush-hole stock made the rifle angelic, incapable of being used for evil purposes... sick, stupid.

Depending on what was done to that rifle, some collectors would like it due to the timing of importation and angelic conversion. Does it still have the under folder? Some had the folder placed in the folded position with the Bush-hole stock installed over it. Some had the folder removed with plates riveted over the folder holes.

Later marked as NHM90 or MAK-90, what you paid is the current going price for the post-Bush1-ban rifles.

$1300 is fair, I bought a 1 56S-1 locally a few months ago for the same price.
It is fair for a factory built rifle.

Nice deal. How about a picture of the whole rifle?

You have us interested, post some photos 📷
That's awesome.
If the drum came with that rifle you got a great deal! Drum itself is selling for $200 and up lately.

it's worth 1250 you slightly overpaid for it 😉
Damn. Makes me feel bad about paying what I just did for a mak 90 underfolder even if it’s functionally the same lol. Nice find!!
I have an old Polytech/Norinco ad from back in the day showing the different models... and it may have it's bayonet mounting capability...Need a close-up pic of the area just under the front sight where the clening rod locks in. If those two little fangs are still present, even if only a small amount, it may be one of those that took a Type 1 bayonet like the one found on the Polytech Legend milled rifle.

When they first started hacking on rifles there was some confusion as to the bayonet lug actual location. The Spiker versions were obvious as daylight where the bayonet was but the detachable knife style had the early type 1 bayonet on some of the folders, and the later bayonet lug we're all familiar with as being located on the gas block.on the solid wood stock models. As such some rifles escaped the butcher's grinder as they mistakenly thought the rifle came in already having the baynet lug deleted when in fact it had the version where the lock on the bayonet engaged the little "fangs" on the underside of the front sight base. Instead of the traditional location on most AKMs under the gas block. Might want to take a closer look at that area.

Its a romi drum...I just bought one at Picketts (central Fla) for $130 but still a great deal for what OP got for his money. Crazy to say that when we are talking about a $250 rifle. When 1300 sounds reasonable for an AKM you know the US dollar has been devalued so damn much.
Sile Import rifles in this configuration were set up to take a type 2 bayonet, not the type 1. If you compare the FSB on this rifle, you will notice that the FSB fangs are shaped a bit differently than the type 1 style. They are there to help retain the cleaning rod, not mount the bayo. The good news is that in order to correctly deban the rifle, all you need is the gas block.

Or just add metal shape new bayolug trying to find a Chicom gasblock is going to be spendy when you can add the ears yourself with a good welder machinist.
Inexpensive and Chinese unfortunately don't exist in the same sentence anymore. When they debanned these, the actually cut the whole bottom of the lug off. You would need to splice half of an AKM pattern lug back onto it - you cant just add the ears.
