i dont really think of this as a collection but sort of turning into it. i like books and magazines... member when we had to get our information from them? :p
if any body knows of any must haves please post them up!

this is probably my favorite, written by Kalashnikov himself.
awesome tails. he talks about the pkm from the time they asked him to join the competition to acceptance.
tells about the above prototype built at the rail depot. great pictures and gives you a real sense of the way things were and his attitude

these are full of a rediculous amount of information and reference photos.
hope Phill can get more in!

these are both totally filled w/ experimantal and prototype guns the pictures are great.
the brown book is in russian, wish i could read it...
the other has small captions in english not tons of detail.

this book is totally worth picking up i think you can find it for like 15$ a lot more than basic info that is run of the mill for books put out a while ago.

stottmans books are the bomb, i reference these all the time.
number ten has some really unique stuff in it.
great pictures. thanks for making these available Rob.

i just picked this up on ebay, i had no idea how many variations of bayo/frogs/sheaths there could be....just for romania, lol.

The story of the Kalashnikov volume 1, and the Collector Grade Publication offering is also a good one.

Kalashnikov AK47 series was my first book, i kind of thought it was good for beginners getting into AK's. I actually let a friend borrow it who is just starting to get into AK variants and learning them. He thought it was a lot to learn at first but it keeps to the basic things and he is starting to learn more and understand just how much information there is with everything. I felt it was much better and easier to give him that first then say the grim reaper which would most likely overwhelm him, possibly enough to make him loose interest.
I wasn't interested much at all in AKs until a coworker of mine, who is a member of the forums here, told me I should buy The Grim Reaper. So I bought it that night, had it in my hands two days later, and started pouring through it. I love that book! It information overload, but a great resource! I should take a look at some of the others that are mentioned on this thread...
I like my Grim Reaper book.

Very cool! I see that on eBay in Russian I didn't know there was a translated version.
This is pretty good biographical book as well written by his daughter.

Cool thread. I had no idea there were that many detailed books. I love my Tokoi book (even though it's the Chinese printing) and the Grim Reaper. Thanks to this thread I also picked up the Everything Necessary...Complex book and it's great too.

i have allot of the books mentioned here except ones in Russian. I would like to see a book that actually shows all the countries production models. And any training aid models . I have both Grim reapers but not all the variations are listed for a given country and with grim reaper books allot of redundant entries.

For the last 15 or so years, with 800+ pages in 10 books so far, 700 different rifles, and over 13 different countries visited, I have tried to do just that...... And am still just touching the tip......
And I have most of them they are great reference. I collect whatever models I can get original kits for . What model Polish rifles were made into training rifles and cut away? both Milled and stamped?

I have the vol 1-5 book, where can I get the vol 6-10 book?
Grim Reaper is a good beginner book. The Encyclopedia was probably my biggest bang for the buck. I need to get around to ordering the last couple volumes from Rob, but am also looking forward to Larry Vickers Guide when it eventually comes out.
I have most of Robs catalogues as well very nicely done. What I am really happy about Rob is he photographs the cut aways and trainers. Which I always try to get for my collection.
