Amd-65 marking

Hello everyone. I searched the net alot about amd65 markings on the gun but couldnt find something helpful.

Now that i have access to this forum so i would like to learn from exeprience of our fellow members.

Kindly share spots and the markings on a real hungarian made amd-65 with pictures for reference.

I have some pretty good AK reference books, lemme see what I can do for ya...

Hungary wasn't big on stamps/markings like Poland was. there may only be a few.
"02", A Crown, A Crescent Moon with a face, (M), are the majority of them.

As to what they mean.... means Quality Control guy made it to work that day.

Yep, Hungarians don't care much about markings, apparently.

You get a serial in the left, and selector markings (infinity and a 1) on the right. Roll marks are for civilians I suppose. On the plus side, cloning couldn't be easier!

If you look at the Vickers guide detail shots there are NO other markings on the gun visible besides those mentioned above on the receiver, the serial number on the top cover, and a number on the base of the stock. There might be a proof on the left side of the gas block, hard to tell. I'll check the AK Catalog...

We weren't big on markings because of various factors mainly it is because of deniability.

We sent thousands and thousands of AMD65s to various movements around the world and Fég was asked to not do its usual markings so it can't be traced back to Hungary.

I've found several AMD65s in Nicaragua and tracing the SN range is they were sent before the Sandinistas took over.

In the end, it was a political decision.

Thanks for your replies. The one i have is having proof marks on barrel shown in the pic. Other wise there are no other markings other then 1 and infinity.

Bolt carrier has number "2" marked on it also.

Plus i also added Romanian type front grip also.

LOL yeah, cause everyone was making AMDs

God it's so stupid what governments will come up with.

Well..

It be honest...I didn't see the AMD65 until the Jane's Defense guide in 1991.

I didn't see it in others and I have JD from 1976 to 1985 and I didn't see any of it, only saw the AK63 series setup including the highly coveted blue furniture setups.

I've also noted several AMD-65 examples with a number and another mark or two on the right side near the rear trunnion. I'm trying to replicate that on my US receiver SBR AMD-65.

I'm convinced the number on the bolt face is a bolt size number. So far most of mine are numbered with 2 but I do have one marked 0.

I entered in 91 forcefully I might add.

Education wasn't free and having a sparkly Hungarian passport wasn't all cracked up to be.

On a plus side, I met other part Hungarians like myself such as a Cuban, Finnish, some other Americans, Brazilians and several Chileans and others who came home to study and ended up doing compulsory service.
Luckily, mines was short and I spent most of my time acting as a translator for visiting NATO personnel and also teaching English at the MoD.

The bolt numbers go from 1 to 4 or 5 I believe and they represent within the assembly line when they were checking headspace which bolt they used.
If 1 didn't go then it went to 2 or 3 or 4.

It happens but it was very rare.

Mine has same marks near the butt folding . I will shared exact number it has. I thought it was marked later by Afghan police but that comes from the factory.

I read somewhere that number on the trunion is the year of manufacture. Mine has 77 marked with other marks.

A designates

1st series production

Looks like those are showing early 68 or late 67 production time.

I have to double check records again.

For the underfolders?

My A series prefix UF kit has a number of cast barrel parts. Castings seemed to show up later rather than earlier. Even the UF trunnion is cast.

Feed ramp on the barrel -also known to be a later feature.

I was of the opinion that the cast parts appeared in the 1980's.

5.45x39mm posted Hungarian UF front trunnions.

Perhaps you are thinking AMD-65 with an A prefix?
