We got fortunate enough to pick up this chinese Moonrock. The Norinco AK-2000P was a rifle designed for the indonesian police which wanted to get a alternitve to the 3000 russian AK-101 and the 1000 AK-102 they had purchased. The price for the AK-101 was 440 dollar per piece and the AK-102 420 dollar, which was too expensive for the government. So this is where Norinco came in place they started to produce a copy of the Russian AK which was cheaper, but also didnt had the quality of the russian counterpart. More or less its just a Full Auto Type 84-5 with a diffrent pistol grip and handguard to mimic the russian 101. They Indonesian governemt ordered 10'000 units, but because of the bad reputation in the field most of them now sitting in a arsenal somewhere in Indonesia. Some of these also landed in the hands of Philippine criminals.

The internals are standard AK the chinese used the big bolt stem an didnt installed the rate reducer. The muzzle is threaded M14x1LH instead of the 100 series M24x1.5RH.

Comparison to a Saiga MK.223 (civilian AK-101).

Both guns didnt have a feed ramp the magazines have a build in guide.

I am awaiting another Moonrock ;)
Very very cool.

it looks like an 84s-5a with different furniture and muzzle device. And of course the ak2000-p markings.

Can you elaborate on why the bad reputation?

On indomiliter.com is a articel where the Police Mobile Brigade Corps quoted that the rifle has poor build quality, the finish wears faster and the lack of spare parts where the reasons that they now stay in the arsenals.

Chicom AK's normaly have a good reputation, so I dont think that the rifle had any reliability or function issues.
