I'm new, I have a some questions about the marketplace

So I've recently been looking to buy a certain sight, an Obzor to be specific, and have gotten a few messages. The first message was received via an email notification from the forum, and clicking to go to the message brings up a missing page and the user isn't found. The second was from an account that had been created practically minutes before contacting me. Both have included someone else's email stating that this person has one to sell me. Obviously major red flags all around, but is it normal to receive an email address rather than continue on the forum's conversation? I'm very convinced it's a scam. How should I go about making deals in the future?

Report the scammers, if they just joined is the first clue. I only deal with established, long time members with good feedback, on this board when I am looking to buy anything.
also dont ever deal with annyone who has a user name ending in a period...no matter how familiar the name looks. Scammers will create an account with a familiar and trusted name, then add a period to it.

They're putting them in front of the name and in the middle also.

Yep, tons of scammers. Make sure used names match exactly and the person has been a member for at least a year and you'll cut out 99% of the scams. Also, avoid anyone that uses the word "mate".

Handle everything via PM here on the forum. Be sure to double check the user that contacts you and stay within the message thread that you've verified. I've had scammers attempt to intercede with my buyers by adding extra characters to my username. I've even had them attempt to intercede with items I was buying. Usually the scammers message doesn't sound like english first speakers. And they will have friends for you to contact, accounts that are minutes or hours old etc. And like jekbrown said, avoid anyone that uses the word "mate"

I hate to say it, but the once thriving marketplace here is practically a waste of time. Scammers here wasting everyone’s time, no mods anymore to address it, traffic is at like an all time low, the world has moved on and this place didn’t keep up. Honestly, I wouldn’t risk buying anything from a member that hasn’t been around for at least 5 years.

Only deal
With long time
Member with a lot of post counts, ask for custom photos before sending money, works like a charm regardless of the forum you are on.

if anyone responds to your add specially when it's been 5 minutes since they joined the forum who magically has the item you are looking for, or if they ask you to email [email protected] who has the item that your looking for, report them and walk away. it's a set of Nigerian scammers that is infested everywhere including gunbroker and other forums that a credit card is required to get in.
